Comments from Tom Breihan

We like corny-ass plays for the cheap seats over here. Spoiler alert: the Haim record is great.

Murphy was talking that shit, tho not directly about the Rapture, back when LCD were first active, too. I loved it. I interviewed him when Sound of Silver was coming out, and he was like, "These bands like Bloc Party are so nice to us, and I just want to DESTROY them."

I miss the Brewer's Art. My old roommate was a manager there. I wonder if Herc actually did fuck Colin Farrell up on the set of Miami Vice.

If any of these guys get huge, you won't have to; they'll find you. Other than that: Maybe Ugly God? If you feel like it? There's nothing you urgently have to check out.

That's better than "made into you," which is how I've been saying it in my head.

Well, hell, man. Thanks for writing such a thoughtful and eloquent response to my probably-unfair review. And thanks for making exactly the record that you wanted to make. That's always the right move, whatever some asshole with a laptop thinks of it. The album so far hasn't worked for me, but, as evidenced by this comments section*, it's working for a whole lot of other people. If you're up for it sometime, I'd love to have a longer conversation, on the record or off, about the way these biographical narratives shape record reviews or about the role of topicality in white-dude music or about all the lyrical details that I didn't pick up. * (I am once again pleasantly shocked at how mellow and articulate and cool the Stereogum readers have been in this here comments section. I knew I'd be in the minority on this album, and I am. But I was also expecting to be fully roasted here, and that mostly hasn't happened. Instead, it's been a great conversation to watch unfold. So uh good job guys.)

Asahd is also credited as a producer. So yeah, I don't think Khaled really produced anything.

I cannot wait to write a Nelly column. The opportunity will almost certainly present itself sometime soon. And I completely forgot about that Hamilton soundtrack song! That was really good!

That movie suuuuuuuucks. Guy Ritchie's post-Snatch attempts to get back to his gangster-caper roots were just the saddest thing. Can't remember the last time I saw a director fall off like that.

Queen of Hip-Hop Soul. Puffy exec-produced her early albums. Sang over the "Top Billin" break. Showed up on Method Man and Ghostface's first albums. So yes. Sometimes, writers don't use shortcuts because we don't want to cite a bunch of shit and distract from the point we're trying to make. Maybe don't assume bad faith next time.

Maybe 15 years ago, this guy in Baltimore introduced me to a girl who I guess he was dating. And when she went to go get a drink at the bar or whatever, he whispered to me, all excited, that that was who The Glow, Pt. 2 was about. I'm pretty sure it wasn't Genevieve.

Selena had a hell of a lot more cultural impact than, say, Jeff Buckley did. He was the one I was including to be nice, not her.

if you cannot get behind "my little midget bitch kick you in the dick," you will never appreciate rap music. it's like "dead in the middle of little italy, little did we know that we riddled two middlemen who didn't do diddly," except if stifler or cartman wrote it. it's magical.
