For years I thought he said "Beachies" and that this was a nickname for the Beach Boys because of the "I Get Around" sequence. I'm a 79 baby, too, and I didn't have the slightest clue who the Bee Gees were until I heard "Stayin' Alive" in Airplane. Part of that is because my parents are not music people at all, but it's crazy how they went from dominant pop force to completely disappearing from pop culture.

Also, to the best of my knowledge, Chvchres never soundtracked a scene where Vin Diesel snowboards down a mountain and triggers an avalanche that destroys a Eurotrash terrorist's lair. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MDAsm7APJA

This isn't part of the conversation here, but Hatebreed are a better live band than Chvrches.

Baltimore City is not all that country, except for little pockets (and except for the everyone-being-broke thing). But most O's fans come from the deep suburbs, and those are all-the-way country.

June 4, 2019 on The Number Ones: Barry White’s “Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe”
Mentioned those two songs specifically because they both got to #1. This is a column about #1 singles.

June 3, 2019 on The Number Ones: Eric Clapton’s “I Shot The Sheriff”
Maybe this is the right place to mention that Bob Marley's Ben & Jerry's flavor fucking slaps.

June 3, 2019 on The Number Ones: Eric Clapton’s “I Shot The Sheriff”
I think the first #1 from both black and white singers is the Marcels' "Blue Moon," from 1961.

It's the last line. They shank the shit out of it, but it's still a redeeming feature, albeit a tiny one.
