Chilton sells it. That's the difference.

There's nothing random about them. She's using the conversation to show how quickly these people are moving on from the death of this person who they know, and how oblivious they are to their daughter's suffering.

Yeah I'm thinking I'll throw that in when something notable got boxed out. Won't write an essay or anything but it kinda helps me situate a song historically.

At the time, damn near every Supremes single hit #1. Like "My World Is Empty Without You" only got to #5, and for them, that was a flop.

I mean, it's still a Holland-Dozier-Holland Supremes song. The floor is pretty high.

October 4, 2018 on The Number Ones: The Supremes’ “Love Is Here And Now You’re Gone”
I like it. But it's kinda depressing to write about that group in the midst of what appears to be a prolonged breakup, and it came out during a very, very busy week. It got overshadowed. It happens.

Kanye is the most important cultural figure to come out of music this century. But Wayne has done much, much more to change the way people rap. Also, Wayne has influenced Kanye, and Kanye has not influenced Wayne.

Simmons employs a lot of my friends, and my best recent freelance checks have had his name on the upper lefthand corner, so I continue to ride with him.

This occurs to me when I was writing it, and I kept writing it anyway. Real talk tho: Simmons is a huge influence. Finding his early-00s stuff was a total lightbulb moment.

I like it but I don't love it. Mostly I remember trying to listen to it on my Discman when I was taking the bus to work, and listening to Blood Brothers on the Baltimore MTA was not a pleasant experience. (I think that's why I don't really fuck with Pig Destroyer, too.) But their live show around that time was fuckin nuts and life-affirming. I don't know who the greatest hardcore band of all time is cuz I don't really believe in canons. But my favorite is Avail.
