We often use words like “secretive” with jj, but fresh off a couple of gems, these two new tracks come with a back story. In rhyme.

OK, jj went to malaga to have some fun, get some sun and 2 albums done. it was back in the fall of 2008 when they had both lost their virginity to insanity and were looking for moments of clarity. a plane to spain felt like a reasonable opportunity.
so with money in the bank, nobody to thank, it started with a drank.
and a couple of hours later the on the 29th of september they had felt the first breeze coming in from africa, sweet winds of melodies pure and true.

The delicate harmonica-fronted (and Caribbean-minded) “Let Go” appears on jj’s forthcoming Secretly Canadian debut, jj nº 3. “My Way” doesn’t, because it’d probably be a pain to get the Lil’ Wayne and Charles Manson samples cleared. The vocal line sorta sounds like Bone Thugs-n-Harmony’s “Tha Crossroads.”

The two songs and back story show up via of Sincerely Yours. jj nº 3 is out 3/9 via Secretly Canadian. Keep eyes peeled for SXSW dates. After that they’re on tour with The xx.

Both xx and jj were also reported to be playing at The Earl in Atlanta on 3/24, but according to The Earl’s website, Sheawater’s playing that night

“Let Go” sounds highly inspired by Springsteens Thunder Road…almost the exact harmonica opening tune, to “let the wind blow back your hair” exact lyrics.

Not to mention, she sings “Baby we were born…” To Run?

  4. “My Way” is fire. She sounds great and the samples are ill. I felt like the sounds used in the opening of “Let Go” were slightly cheesy and it turned me off. However, when she’s singing the track moves. Musically speaking, i felt the chorus of “Let Go” was a little busy also,
