Majestyy by Noah Kalina

It’s been a few years since the dissolution of beloved NYC glam-rock futurist troupe Apes & Androids, a sad, dry spell for spandexed prog-pop finally snapped in 2012 thanks to Chrome Canyon (the sci-fi synth project of that band’s keyboardist Morgan Z), and now courtesy of ex-A&A frontman Brian Jacobs and his solo project Majestyy. Jacobs has been deliberately and patiently honing Majestyy’s aesthetic all this time, and while the result draws a clear line from his old band’s melange of ’80s dance, progressive keyboard, and layered vocal harmony, a gem like “The Notion” showcases a more ebullient and pop-minded clarity than Apes ever managed, without sacrificing any of the glitter or refined instrumental performance. It’s a great one and well worth the download, which you can grab below along with the more slap-bass robo-funk rooted “Spirits Touch.”
