Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Mosquito

Well, that was fast. Not one hour ago, we posted footage of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs debuting two new songs live onstage over the weekend. And now they’ve let us in on a whole bunch of info about that album. First off: It’s called Mosquito, and its cover art will be haunting my nightmares for a little while. It arrives in three months, and as with 2009′s It’s Blitz!, TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek teamed up with Nick Launay to produce it. One song, however, has a different list of credits: Production from James Murphy, and a guest appearance from Kool Keith, in his Dr. Octagon guise. That should be nuts. Check out a not-very-revealing minute-long trailer for the album below.

Mosquito is out 4/16 on Interscope.

  1. I’m excited, but that’s got to be one of the worst album covers of all time.

    • But they _intended_ it to be that bad and kitsch, it’s not the same thing. You can only say that album has bad cover when the band actually chose it / thought it would be good with no other intentions.

      • Copy and paste this again. I dare you.

        • I didn’t, it’s just the site is slow. and what did I say wrong, what with all those downvotes, whatttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt.

  2. Judging by the cover, they’re clearly hedging their bets on 2013 being the year that Garbage Pail Kids chic takes over the indieverse. RIP SEAPUNK :(

  4. That record cover is what happens when the Nevermind baby let the fame go to his head.

  5. WHATTHEFUXXISGOINGON?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  6. Imagine if Maps was on this album. Mindfuck of the cent’ry.

    btw I’m Shakespeare

  7. Dude. People. RELAX. This album cover is essentially in homage to the GARBAGE PAIL KIDS – which makes it fucking awesome!!

  8. Wesley makes a good point: what if this album has the greatest music of their career and it’s blanketed by this fucking terrifyingly bad album cover. We just don’t know. I wouldn’t put it past YYY to pull something like that.

  9. As a huge fan of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, I am just so thrilled about a new album! I’ve loved everything they’ve put out, and I’ve seen them twice. I love Karen O and the boys. I’m pumped! Woohoo! And…I like the cover.

  10. I think we all owe the Centipede Hz. album cover an apology.

    • See, but the quality of the music on Centipede Hz. was somewhat foreshadowed by the hideous album cover (well, no, it wasn’t THAT bad) . What if this fate repeats itself here?

  11. That cover looks like something out of Sid’s room from Toy Story.

  12. Gross enough cover to be fair…

  13. I personally couldn’t give less of a shi* about the album cover – the new songs sound boss. Isn’t that really what we’re here for folks?

  14. It is very likely that mass consumption of drugs influenced their choice of cover art. As long as the drugs influence the music for better, we’ll be ok…but whatever they were on when they came up with that cover, I hope they didn’t take when they made the record :(

  16. Am I the only one who likes this album cover?
Do we not all understand that it’s meant to be kitsch/low-brow art?

  17. Mellowgold’s 3D robot-skeleton thing is coming to rescue you, ugly baby

  18. Honey I Shrunk the (Garbage Pail) Kids

  19. Love the album art.
