Robert Pollard

Guided By Voices frontman Robert Pollard has another new album on the way (following Honey Locust Honky Tonk and Mouseman Cloud earlier this year) titled Blazing Gentlemen, and with it he claims to have “finally figured out how to write a song after 55 years.” That’s quite a statement from the dude who made Bee Thousand, but “Tonight’s The Rodeo” is a hell of a song that brings back nice memories of peak GBV. Plus, that “Tonight’s the rodeo oh oh oh” hook hits in just the right way. Listen below.

Blazing Gentlemen is out 12/9 on Fire Records. It is the 1,253th record Pollard has put out since Guided By Voices reunited.

  1. He’s still got it.

    • Pollard released ‘Mouseman Cloud’ in April 2012, not earlier this year. He also released ‘Jack Sells the Cow’ in September 2012. He’s so prolific that even Stereogum’s editors and fact checkers can’t keep up.

  2. He never lost it, Matt. And knowing him, he never will.
