St. Vincent

Back in December, Annie Clark announced that she’d have a new self-titled St. Vincent album for us early this year. She shared the first single “Birth In Reverse” and claimed, via press release, that she “wanted to make a party record you could play at a funeral.” “Digital Witness,” the second song she’s shared from the album, certainly makes good on the promise. It’s a twitchy, funky track, a deep but idiosyncratic groove that seems to be pulling in a bunch of different directions at once. Nice chorus, too. Listen below.

St. Vincent is out 2/25 on Republic/Loma Vista.

  1. A St. Vincent dance album. Can’t wait.

  2. This is great. You can hear David Byrne’s influence all over it, too.

  3. Can’t wait to hear it on vinyl!

  4. She seems freshly invigorated on these new tracks, it’s like ‘Krokodil’ and the David Byrne album were a two-part turning point in her career. Got a feeling the new album’s going to be one of my favourites of the year.

  5. AC is officially an ice queen in that artwork. Great track!

  6. This is going to be an interesting record. That riff sounds like it has come straight out of Love This Giant, but it sounds a lot more off-kilter and electronic. I like it. The subtle head movements in the video are slightly unnerving too…

  7. It has echos of Big Science era Laurie Anderson with some Bowie dance-funk in it. Great chorus.

  8. Either it’s an optical illusion or that video was filmed with her standing still during it’s duration. If you look closely you could see her head and eyes dart ever so slightly. Well done! The song and the video.

  9. The song title is the key for the video me thinks. Which makes the “official audio” title so fucking ironic.

  10. Hidden due to low comment rating. Click here to see

    • Listen to it on repeat. Then remind yourself while she’s willfully obtuse, she’s refreshingly unique. Besides, one of her most catchiest choruses too.

  11. Over a bottle of burgundy
    In the south of France
    St Vincent Byrnes
    In a tower
    Of pyre

  12. is it me or the picture moves? someone tell me!

  13. That chorus.

  14. Damn, she is so adorable. <3

  15. why that hair?

  16. Prince Rogers Nelson.

  17. Nice video–looks like a tribute to (or ripoff of) They Might Be Giants’ Ana Ng: Same synchronized double office drones, same scenes of weird, stiff posing in front of factories.
