The young Chicago rapper Vic Mensa built a serious buzz for himself with the 2013 mixtape Innanetape, a smart, incisive rap tape. That one was very much in the mold of Vic’s buddy Chance The Rapper, as is most of the stuff Mensa has done. But on his new track “Feel That,” Mensa goes a radically different direction. With its bubbling, minimal beat and its strained cadences, “Feel That” feels like Mensa’s take on pill-addled Atlanta strip-club rap. It’s more Young Thug than Chance The Rapper, and as it turns out, Vic can do that stuff really well. Listen below.
