Icona Pop & Waka

Swedish pop revelers Icona Pop somehow managed to record a song with L.A. R&B hornball Ty Dolla $ign without learning what he looks like. At last weekend’s Ultra Music Festival, the duo posted the above photo of themselves with Waka Flocka Flame on Instagram, misidentifying Flocka as Ty$. (Flocka and Ty$ look absolutely nothing else behind the obvious black-guys-with-dreads thing.) And today, they share their new Ty$ collaboration “It’s My Party.” The confusion makes sense when you consider that Icona Pop and Ty$ were probably never in the same room at the same time. The new track is just a new version of “My Party,” the Leslie Gore-interpolating song from their 2013 debut This Is… Icona Pop, with Ty$ standing in for club rapper Zebra Katz. Listen below.

This Is… Icona Pop is out now on Record Company Ten/Big Beat.

  1. To be fair, Waka thought he was posing with Katy B and Aluna Francis.

Gotta be honest, never gave Icona Pop a chance but after hearing this I listened to This Is… and wow is it fantastic. Between them, Sky and Charli XCX we got some ridiculously great pop music in 2013
