While we all enjoyed watching Speedy Ortiz rise and rise in popularity last year, it’s worth remembering that they are just one project from a prolific group of musicians. Pony Bones is a duo consisting of Speedy’s guitarist Matt Robidoux and Kate Hanlon (formerly of Kendra), who make lo-fi rock that wildly slides from grinding noise to sweet melodies. “Clyfford,” the new song from their soon-to-be-released second EP, is a brighter shift from their first (and freely available) EP. Often Robidoux will whip up clouds of distortion only to reveal a tender guitar line underneath as the dust settles. Listen below.
PONY BONES II is out 4/29 via Exploding In Sound. Pre-order it here.
