Michael Jackson & Justin Timberlake – “Love Never Felt So Good”

The idea of a posthumous Michael Jackson album, full of “contemporized” versions of unreleased recordings, is more than a little dubious, but there’s a decent chance that the forthcoming Xscape will be a fun listen. We’ve already heard the title track, and it was a fine example of late-period MJ. The new single “Love Never Felt So Good,” it turns out, is better than OK. The song remixes an 1983 demo of a song that MJ wrote with, of all people, Paul Anka. The circa-now remixing feels minimal; those swirling strings and that disco-pop pulse were as contemporary then as they are now. And jesus, that early-’80s Michael Jackson voice. The track debuted last night when Usher danced to it at the iHeartRadio Awards; when you’re promoting an album for a dead artist, I guess you do what you can. There are two versions available, one featuring Justin Timberlake. Listen to both, and watch the Usher performance, below.

Xscape is out 5/13 on Epic.
