Braid - "No Coast"

If you were into emo in the pre-guyliner late-’90s/early-’00s era, there’s a very good chance you looked at the Illinois band Braid with a certain religious reverence. It’s been 16 years since the band last released an album, but they’re back this summer with the reunion effort No Coast. “Bang,” the first song that they’ve shared from the album, is a fine piece of heart-on-sleeve post-hardcore clangor, and it honestly sounds like something the band would’ve bashed out before they first broke up in 1999. 1. I’m really excited about this one as it somehow miraculously lifts off from the said-’99 post-hardcore bent shapes breakup era, but that return EP in 2011 wasn’t so bad either with its pop motions. I kind of wonder if it’d get the same 2.8 review and harsh words it did just three years ago if it were reviewed today during the thick of this #emorevival.
