Sylvan Esso on Fallon

A little while ago, Amealia Meath, of the Vermont folk harmonizers Mountain Man, and Nick Sanborn, of the rootsy North Carolina psychedelic rockers Megafaun, teamed up to form the duo Sylvan Esso, and their self-titled debut together is an absolutely winning collection of glimmering, low-key synthpop. Their music is somehow, at the same time, smooth and ramshackle, and the same could be said of the way they looked making their network TV debut on The Tonight Show last night. Performing the album standout “Coffee,” with Jimmy Fallon’s bandleader ?uestlove sitting in on drums, they came off endearingly gawky but also self-assured, and they sounded great. Watch the performance below.

Sylvan Esso is out now on Partisan.

  1. Someone here said this before after Courtney Barnett performed on Fallon, but how awesome is it that a mainstream late night show has bands like Sylvan Esso perform on it?

  2. So cool that ?uestlove performed with them. Cool dynamic to the song. Also, her voice is just the darndest thing.

  3. It’s still a nice song and her vocals sounded great live, but I’ll never stop being disappointed by seeing electronic acts “perform.” I can’t get past the karaoke aspect.

  4. don’t think i’ll ever get over how awkward amealia’s dancing is
this is great though, ?uest on everything 4eva
