Glower – “Low Motion” (Stereogum Premiere)

Supposedly, Josh Silbernagel and Sean Murray of North Dakota duo Glower wrote their forthcoming debut The Circle Binds in an attempt to answer the question “What would it sound like if Billy Corgan and Brian Wilson started a hardcore band?” I’m not really sure what that would sound like, and I’m definitely not convinced that it would sound anything like this, but I can sort of see what they’re getting at with that hypothetical — new single “Low Motion” pairs crunchy ’90s alt-rock intensity with a keen pop sensibility, catchy melodies and backing vocal “ahhh”s and all. The Beach Boys influence might still seem like a bit of a stretch, but it actually comes through at the end of the song, where the glorious big finish melts into some surprisingly lovely a cappella singing. Listen below.

The Circle Binds is out 6/23 via Broken Circles. Pre-order it here.
