Honda Targets Millennials With Strange Weezer Commercial

A bizarre new commercial for the 2016 Honda Pilot Elite SUV, directed by Juno and Up In The Air director Jason Reitman, features a bored-looking family in a car who suddenly start singing Weezer’s “Buddy Holly.” It is weirdly reminiscent of this scene in Step Brothers, and apparently it’s intended to appeal to millennial consumers with kids. “The sort of ironic thing is that millennials are aging,” assistant vice president of advertising for Honda US Tom Peyton told Brandchannel. “We’ve sometimes got to catch ourselves in internal meetings when we talk about this hyper-youth target, because the older end of the millennial range is a 35-year-old who is raising a family and looking at family vehicles. That’s why our marketing has to be more fun and youthful than in the past.” Check out the super fun and youthful commercial below.
