John Legend, Os Mutantes, Devendra Banhart, Caetano Veloso, Dirty Projectors, Seu Jorge, Beck, Bebel Gilberto, José Gonzales, Beirut, Tom Zé, Of Montreal, Gogol Bordello, Javelin, Madlib, Brazilian Girls, St. Vincent, and Neon Indian are among the many artists who collaborate on Red Hot + Rio 2. (Besides the Red Hot albums, the Red Hot Organization put out Dark Was The Night and No Alternative.) As with the first volume, this album features legendary Brazilian acts working alongside other artists to raise money for HIV/AIDS charities, with a focus here on ’70s/’80s Brazilian composers. A few bands like Cults, Beirut, and Brazilian Girls recently got together this weekend to film their contributions inside a loft in Williamsburg. You can see a gallery from that event above. Beirut’sRed Hot track is a stomping cover of Caetano Veloso’s “O Leãozinho.” The title of this romantic ballad translates to “little lion.” Listen to the studio version below:
Red Hot + Rio 2 is out 6/28. There’s more information at redhot.org.
