This is how the inevitable war of the internet-hype fashion-rap sprites starts: Not with a bang, but with a Twitter. (Sorry.) Azealia Banks and Kreayshawn both got famous in 2011 on the strength of YouTube videos for catchy songs, in which both of them rocked Mickey Mouse-related clothing (“212” and Mickey sweatshirt for Azealia, “Gucci Gucci” and Mickey ears for Kreayshawn). So of course they don’t like each other
As NME points out, this particular spat started yesterday, when Kreayshawn Tweeted a since-deleted link to the “212” video, which someone had posted on the porn site Pornhub. (Like you guys don’t know what Pornhub is.)
Azealia’s response was not happy: “you think you’re funny? you’re a dumb bitch. And you can’t rap. I’ll sit on your face. … Fall back slut. Lol. This is how bitches wanna start the new year ? They want their mics ate this early ?”
Kreayshawn’s weirdly blase response to the response: “Come on you mad because I retweeted your link? Because I like your music? Pffff get outta here! Not a fan anymore.” I’m detecting hurt feelings somewhere in here.
Kreayshawn, it turns out, is not Azealia’s only recent target. As the Daily Swarm notes, she’s also gone in on XL Records head Richard Russell in a couple of recent interviews, telling both Self-Titled and the BBC that a deal with the label fell through after Russell got mad that Azealia didn’t want to use his beats and after he reacted unenthusiastically when Azealia brought him “212.”
She’ll get plenty of chances to go off on more targets in a few months, when she steps onstage at Coachella, where she’s the first confirmed artist. I’d say there’s also a pretty great chance that Kreayshawn will get booked at the same fest. I’m praying for hilarious onstage fisticuffs.
