Rolling Stone‘s 25 Best Albums, Songs Of 2009

This morning we looked at an albums list from one of today’s most influential sites, so it’s fitting to take a pass through yesteryear’s authority after the sun has set completely. Rolling Stone’s decade-appraising lists were superficially comprehensive or schizophrenically scattered, depending on your angle. So how about their take on this year’s music? Well the Wenner group would like you to know that the trinity of holy Bs had a fantastic year: Bob’s Together Through Life clocks in at #18 on the albums list, leaving Bruce and Bono no choice but to fight it out for the top two slots; as for songs, Dylan gets shut out! But U2 and Springsteen most certainly did not. A more fitting teaser: Animal Collective is to Pitchfork as U2 is to Rolling Stone. And by that analogy, Joy Orbison is to P4K what Black Eyed Peas is to RS. You get the idea. As we’ve come to see, there’s a sizable amount of overlap on most outlets’ lists, so really it’s the outliers that define them. And there are outliers. So again, the question: something for everyone, or nothing to anyone? I know how Miley Cyrus fans would answer.
