A couple of years ago, the ferociously gifted Toronto art-punk singer Katie Stelmanis formed an electro-goth project called Austra, and their debut album Feel It Break was among our favorite albums of 2011. And now they’ve announced the details of Olympia, their second album, out this summer. Austra’s six members recorded Olympia as more of a full-band effort, and according to a press release, they worked in more references to classic dance music. That’s certainly evident on first single “Home,” which eschews the slow, sensual pulse of the band’s debut in favor of lush, idiosyncratic orchestration and a serious old-school Chicago house ripple-thump. The track promises great things for the new album, and we’ve got a stream of it, as well as Olympia’s tracklist, below.
Olympia is out 6/18 on Domino.
