For their new record Stills, Gauntlet Hair left Denver to return to their home city Chicago. The duo went on nostalgia benders and that’s from where they gleaned influence for this new record. “I started listening again to the stuff I would have in my discman in the back of my mom’s car,” says drummer Craig Nice. “White Zombie, Marilyn Manson — the production on those records is so amazing. Nothing sounds like that anymore.” While Stills’ first single “Human Nature” sounds nothing like the overwrought work of Zombie and Manson — not a shot; got a lot of love for both — there’s a real sheen to their dank smoothed out new wave via production by Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Jacobo Portrait. Check out the track below.
Stills is out 7/16 via Dead Oceans.
