Kirin J Callinan – “Victoria M.” Video (Stereogum Premiere)

2013’s best new artist is Kirin J Callinan. Here are some reasons why. In his last video, for the debut LP title track “Embracism,” Kirin was naked, and the star was his buttcheek. The self-directed video for “Victoria M.,” an album track which puts his theatrical, similarly focuses on a lesser seen side of Callinan. Seven lesser-seen sides, actually: Recall the titles sequence of your favorite ham-fisted ’80s soap opera, then cast Kirin in every single role. It’s cheeky fun, but also a telling look at a chameleonic artist long on range. And wit. And wardrobe. Here is “Victoria M.” It’s inspired by The Young & The Restless. It is dramatic. Believe.

Embracisim is out via Siberia Records/Terrible Records in partnership with XL Recordings.
