The 5 Best Videos Of The Week

straight2video

The artists behind the videos on this week’s list come from Sweden, Japan, Syria, Canada, and the UK. They have, more or less, nothing in common with each other. And there’s every chance that none of these videos, except maybe the top one, will ever get nominated for a YouTube Music Award. That’s just fine because they all rule. Check out this week’s videos below.

5. I Break Horses – “Faith” (Dir. Magnus Härdner)

Top-shelf black-and-white hypnosis. This one earns its spot based on little more than the way it makes steam and water look. I can’t remember the last time I saw steam and/or water looking this awesome.

4. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu – “Mottai-Nightland” (Dir. ?)

There might not be a single pop artist on earth who does convulsive, euphoric, terrifying what-the-fuckery quite like this lady. I am legitimately worried that those skullface fuckers will haunt my dreams.

3. Omar Souleyman – “Warni Warni” (Dir. Cali Thornhill DeWitt)

Strictly in terms of on-camera presence, this 47-year-old Syrian wedding singer might be the baddest man on the planet. I could definitely do without the goofy greenscreened shots of Souleyman on the Statue of Liberty’s head or a polar icecap or whatever, but those images of him exhaling smoke on a rooftop? Fuck.

2. Milosh – “Slow Down” (Dir. Milosh)

Milosh is the singer for Rhye, and he’s also got his own solo album coming out. The lady in the video is the actress Alexa Nikolas, his wife. The entire video is, more or less, a loving tribute to her face, and that’s just about the most romantic thing I’ve ever seen.

1. Arctic Monkeys – “One For The Road” (Dir. Focus Creeps)

Sometimes you forget what actual motherfucking rock stars look like. Sometimes it helps to be reminded.
