Voice Coils is the project of former Roomrunner member Sam Garrett. Roomrunner is plenty heavy, but Garrett’s new band comes with a welcome proggy heft: plenty of elegantly played metal riffs, organ blasts, and towering drums fills. But there’s also a secret weapon at play here by the name of Mitski Miyawaki, whose angelic voice is so satisfying in this context, and not simply because she’s adding a pretty element to the heavy proceedings. Her expressive vocals are constantly shifting with the dynamic instrumentation. Listen to it below.
