The former Girls frontman Christopher Owens released A New Testament, his second solo album, just a month and a half ago, and he’s already dropped another new track on us. “America,” Owens’ new track, is a tender fingerpicked acoustic folk song, and it draws on Owens’ insane life story. Owens grew up in the Children Of God cult overseas, and “America” is about the moment, at 16, when he finally got ready to move to the U.S. for the first time. Like the A New Testament song “Stephen,” it translates a sad and very specific life story to a touching and weirdly universal song. Listen below.
