Back when Ty Dolla $ign released his $ign Language mixtape at the tail end of summer, word was his official debut album Free TC was soon to follow. Now it’s looking more like the album won’t be released until 2015, but Ty$ did release the project’s excellent first single today. “Stand For” is a co-production by Diplo and DJ Dahi, the guy behind Drake’s “Worst Behavior,” Tinashe’s “Bet,” and Lily Allen’s “Sheezus” among other futuristic beats. In keeping with that pedigree, the production is a shimmering, state-of-the-art stutter — slowed-down EDM in form but R&B in function. “If you believe in something, stand for it,” Ty advises at the outset before proclaiming himself just such a person over dense bass and colorful synth squelches.
