S is the solo project of ex-Carissa’s Wierd vocalist Jenn Ghetto. The video for “Tell Me,” the latest single from her recent Cool Choices LP, finds the artist in an empty apartment trying desperately to busy herself. She sings into her webcam with heavy eyes, like she’s on a pleading Skype call. She hangs up a stream of sad Christmas lights on her wall. She shakes and half-dances and crawls all over the carpet. The song’s soft electronic drums and bittersweet keyboard notes play over the solitary actions, allowing Ghetto’s lyrics about dealing with heartbreak and loss to zoom into focus: “Tell me that it’s over/ Was it really ever worth it?/ You can’t always be in love.” Ghetto shot the incredibly lo-fi video for “Tell Me” on her own webcam, and her quirky isolation matches the song’s quiet loneliness perfectly.
