Back in 2011, director Colin Hanks made a total of $92,025 from a Kickstarter campaign in order to make a documentary about the late, great Tower Records. The film has been in production since then, and the result, All Things Must Pass: The Rise And Fall Of Tower Records, will finally premiere at this year’s SXSW in Austin, TX.
The festival also announced that it will screen Love & Mercy, a biopic of Brian Wilson that chronicles two particularly tumultuous and tragic periods in the Beach Boys’ frontman’s life. The young Wilson is played by Paul Dano, the older by John Cusack. These are just two examples of a variable slew of musically inclined films that will be screening at SXSW this year.
