Papa John’s Tries To Make Amends With Iggy Azalea

The most embarrassing part of 2015 so far is definitely brands. Brands and memes. Oh, and Iggy Azalea. So the latest news story to draw together that unholy trifecta has quickly picked up way too much steam. Try to follow along.

Yesterday, four-time-Grammy-nominee Iggy Azalea was not focusing on the big event, but rather, tweeting irately at the subpar (sorry, it’s true) pizza company Papa John’s. Apparently she ordered a pizza, and the driver who delivered it to her leaked her phone number. Now, what she’s talking about actually is a pretty serious breach of her privacy, but it’s still funny. Who calls Papa John’s their favorite pizza?? Here are the tweets, including a sample of the messages Iggy got:

Papa John’s tried to respond to Iggy’s complaints with humor, probably hoping it would blow over. But that weak sauce was not going to satisfy her:

As usual, she is not happy with the media’s coverage of the situation, either:

(By the way, “mentally challenged” is not a very PC way to refer to blogs — or anyone — Iggy.)

Anyway, this is definitely serious. Very serious. She’s not wrong, really.

I’m not giggling at all over the fact that they responded to a very serious privacy concern with lyrics.

Iggy is well-known for her diatribes on Twitter, but the sheer absurdity of this particular exchange made it very ripe for memes. First up, Digornios! They’re not delivery, guys!

Papa John’s gave this statement to the Hollywood Reporter:

Privacy of our customers and employees is extremely important to us. Papa John’s has taken appropriate disciplinary action with regard to the employee involved. We are reaching out directly to Ms. Azalea and hope to resolve this incident and make it right.

Let’s break this feud down in the comments: what will Papa John’s have to do to win Iggy’s totally random and completely undeserved loyalty back? Was this just one dude’s celeb-freak-out mistake, or is this a larger issue within the company that has been brewing beneath the surface until Iggy blew it wide open? What’s your favorite pizza place?

FYI today is National Pizza Day.
