Ten years ago, R&B upstart Amerie (now Ameriie) teamed with “Crazy In Love” producer Rich Harrison on “1 Thing,” an absolute sledgehammer of a song that pushed Harrison’s deconstructed funk-break onslaught to glorious new heights. Ameriie attempted a comeback last year with “What I Want,” a decent but unmemorable single that morphed that “1 Thing” sound into something more like a retro Motown hit. Now she’s joined forces with Harrison again for “Out Loud.” It’s not a monstrous beast on the level of their signature hit, but I’m feeling its minor-key spin on the pair’s percussive style.
