Elvis Perkins – “Mexican Ritual” (Feat. Alec Ounsworth) (Stereogum Premiere)

Last year we heard Andrew Bird’s cover of the New Pornographers’ “The Fake Headlines,” part of the Yellow Bird Project’s Good People Rock covers comp. Back then we noted that Elvis Perkins and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s Alec Ounsworth covered each other’s songs for the album, and one of them is out in the world today. Perkins’ version of Ounsworth’s “Mexican Ritual” (with an assist from Ounsworth himself) is a saloon singalong that somehow feels jaunty and drowsy at the same time. Hear it below.

Good People Rock will be out in April via Dan Mangan’s new Arts & Crafts imprint Madic Records. It’s available for pre-order now on vinyl and digital.
