Before Fake Palms signed to Buzz Records, it was the bedroom project of Toronto-based musician Michael le Riche. Just this year le Riche enlisted members of Toronto heavyweights Slim Twig, Tropics and Hooded Fang, and Fake Palms arrived at its current sound — driving guitars, murky bass, and relentless, metallic drums. Their first single “Sun Drips” shows off the band’s expert infusion of post-punk textures with pop sensibilities, reaching its climax as the sandstorm of distortion envelops le Riche’s delicate vocal.
