Several months ago, piano man Ben Folds announced that he would be teaming up with NYC classical sextet yMusic for a new orchestral album. Now, that collaboration is finally bearing fruit: So There will be out in September, and today, we get to hear new song “Capable Of Anything.” It’s a lot of fun, a slice of classic Ben Folds piano-pop bolstered by the addition of whirling woodwinds and strings. Here’s what Mr. Folds himself had to say about the song in an email to NPR, where the track initially premiered:
I was looking for a way to frame the new songs I was writing to fit with the three movement piano and orchestra concerto I would feature. With “Capable of Anything,” yMusic — a classical secret from NYC — and I cracked the code that would enable us to perform an upbeat pop song with no bass and classical instruments…This song is about how, if you’re going to say that you are capable of anything, you need accept those things that you are capable of, of which you’re not so proud.
So There is out 9/11 via New West Records.
