Preview Jamie xx’s Tree Of Codes Ballet Track “Pianna”

Jamie xx just released his debut solo LP In Colour, and it’s one of the year’s best albums. As an encore, he’s also composed the score for a new contemporary ballet. Tree Of Codes, inspired by Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel, is set to be part of this year’s Manchester International Festival, and it will debut next month. Wayne McGregor choreographed it, and the artist Olafur Eliasson, who made all those waterfalls in New York a few years ago, created the environment. One of Jamie xx’s contributions was a somber, piano-led instrumental called “Pianna,” which sounds nothing like anything on In Colour. You can hear a piece of it in the ballet trailer below.

Tree Of Codes runs 7/2-12 at the Manchester Opera House.
