SuperJam is a unique late-night tent destination at Bonnaroo at which disparate artists take turns knocking out a set of classic covers. There are two SuperJams this year, a Sunday bluegrass one and last night’s main ’80s-themed “throwback” party led by Pretty Lights with DMC, Rob Trujillo (Metallica), Jack Antonoff, Chance The Rapper, Reggie Watts, Jamie Lidell, Rhiannon Giddens (Carolina Chocolate Drops), Chali 2na, John Medeski, Reggie Watts, and, as always, a few unannounced guests. This year’s jam conflicted with D’Angelo & The Vanguard’s performance at This Tent, but carried on long enough for most dazed festival goers to amble over and get the gist. The biggest surprise came at the beginning with Jon Hamm and ‘Roo alumnus Zach Galifianakis (neither of whom were scheduled to be at the festival) singing “We Are The World.” (The duo also performed unannounced at the comedy tent earlier in the day.)

Chance The Rapper lent a hand on the Notorious B.I.G.’s “Juicy,” DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince’s “Summertime,” Bell Biv DeVoe’s “Poison,” and Montell Jordan’s “This Is How We Do It.” Chance had already hopped onstage during sets by Earth, Wind & Fire, Flying Lotus, and SZA this weekend.

SZA sang Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel” and Queen and David Bowie’s “Under Pressure” with Jack Antonoff.

DMC led covers of Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way” (with Cherub’s Jordan Kelley) and Run D.M.C.’s “It’s Tricky” and “King Of Rock.”

Kelley also sang Survivor’s “Eye Of The Tiger” with Corey Feldman, who was booked at the festival for a Goonies screening Q&A and performance with his “lingerie model band” the Angels.

Jamie Lidell did Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” and, later, Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long.” Antonoff sang Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing In The Dark” and Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer.”

Also covered were songs by Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Cameo, Grandmaster Flash, and INXS, plus the Police’s “Roxanne” which isn’t from the ’80s, but it was 3AM so we’ll let it slide.
