Ava Luna’s two female vocalists exist at opposite poles, both equally as satisfying. Felicia Douglass’ is the one that’s a little more soulful, with a tendency to reach for dizzying, shimmering heights on tracks like “PRPL” and “Coat Of Shellac.” She’s embarked on a new side project called Gemma alongside producer Erik Gundel and together they create sleek R&B tracks like “As Ever,” the title track from their forthcoming debut LP. Douglass’ voice dances around the beat, gliding up and down bars with a weightless deft: “Was it up to you to notice we had a time?” she asks. “You could say that it’s something in earnest.” Listen below.
