Bands often live two separate lives: their life on the road and their life at home. Athens twangers Futurebirds’ new album, aptly titled Hotel Parties, revolves around balancing these two lives, trying to keep one from destroying the other — sometimes unsuccessfully. The album isn’t out until September, but today we premiere “twentyseven,” a gleaming, Southern-fried late-twenties-crisis type of song. The music is very chill, contrasting heavily with its subject matter, but perfect for a drive through rural nowhere with your arm swaying out the window. “The motif for the record is duality — the give and take of life, dreams vs. reality, loving vs. longing, wanting to grab life by the horns vs. needing to chill the fuck out, sleep vs. sanity — I could go on forever. With a touring band, the home vs. road theme comes to the forefront daily.”
