Martin Scorsese’s Vinyl Also Rebuilt Max’s Kansas City

Last month, Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger, and Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter briefly transformed Rough Trade Brooklyn into a mid-’70s Sam Goody for their upcoming ’70s-set HBO series. Now they’ve recreated the iconic NYC venue Max’s Kansas City for another shoot at 19th St and Broadway, right around the corner from where the original once stood. The exterior of the set also featured vintage, era-appropriate cars and magazines in a newsstand. The previously untitled music industry drama has now been given a name, Vinyl, and it stars Bobby Cannavale as Richie Finestra, head of the fictional American Century Records label. The cast also includes Olivia Wilde as his former actress/model wife Devon, Ray Romano as the label’s head of promotions Zak Yankovich, and Mick Jagger’s son James as the frontman of punk band Nasty Brits. Check out some more photos from the set below, all via Gothamist.
