Benjamin Clementine Wins 2015 Mercury Prize

Micky Clement

Benjamin Clementine’s At Least For Now has won the Mercury Prize, awarded annually to Great Britain’s best album. The Ghanian-born pianist and singer-songwriter defeats a field of finalists including Aphex Twin, Florence + The Machine, and Jamie xx. Per The Guardian, he offered these words before inviting all the other nominees on stage with him:

Dunno what to say. Thank you very much. I’d like to thank music. I can’t believe I’ve actually won this… I never thought I would say this. If anyone is watching, any child or youngster or student. The world is your oyster. Go out there and get what you want to get.

Recent Mercury Prize winners include Young Fathers, Alt-J, and James Blake. Here’s Clementine’s music video for “London.”
