Three years ago, the psychedelic New York duo Prince Rama scored an Album Of The Week with Top 10 Hits Of The End Of The World, a loony concept album that speculated how Billboard’s upper echelon might sound during a hypothetical apocalypse. With that concept in place, the group did cool things combining glimmering synthpop with way-out sci-fi psych, and the combination worked. Hopefully, it’ll work just as well on the next Prince Rama album, which has a goofy concept of its own. Xtreme Now, which comes out early next year, is an album about extreme sports. A press release claims that the two sisters in the group wrote the album while living “on a black metal utopian commune on V?rmsi, a remote island off the coast of Estonia during the summer of 2012,” and there’s a whole fantastical narrative that goes from there. The duo worked on the album with former Spank Rock producer XXXChange. Check out first single “Bahia” below.
Xtreme Now is out 3/4 on Carpark.
