When Beyoncé released her new video for “Formation” and debuted the song in a supremely confident performance at the Super Bowl the next day, a bunch of conservative white people lost their fucking minds. Rudy Giuliani called it an “attack” on police officers, and Rush Limbaugh called it “representative of the cultural decay and the political decay and the social rot that is befalling our country.” Wow, black pride is scary! The whole thing was patently absurd, and last night, Saturday Night Live parodied the phenomenon in a fake disaster movie trailer for The Day Beyoncé Turned Black, in which white people react with horror to the realization that yes, Beyoncé is black. “Maybe the song…isn’t for us,” Bobby Moynihan says in confusion after listening to “Formation.” “BUT USUALLY EVERYTHING IS!” Cecily Strong cries in disbelief.
