Three years ago, the former Bikini Kill and Le Tigre leader Kathleen Hanna formed the Julie Ruin, a new band named after the persona she used to release a lo-fi 1997 synthpop album. The new band, which includes her former Bikini Kill bandmate Kathy Wilcox, released the debut album Run Fast a few months after announcing their formation, but Hanna’s ongoing battle with lyme disease made it hard for them to do a whole lot of touring or to stay active.
So it’s awesome to see that the Julie Ruin are now coming back with a new album that has the encouraging title Hit Reset. The band teased a new LP on Twitter last week, and now they’ve confirmed it and shared the swaggering, confident “I Decide,” its first single. The sing is a stomping, midtempo rocker, and its new lyric video stars Waxahatchee frontwoman Katie Crutchfield as she struts through downtown Austin during SXSW. Check it out below.
Hit Reset is out 7/8 on Hardly Art.
