New Portishead music is a rare and precious commodity, so listen up. The trip-hop legends have chosen an unexpected way to break more than a half-decade of silence, following 2009 one-off “Chase The Tear” by joining the ridiculously long list of artists who’ve covered ABBA’s 1975 pop smash “SOS.” As you might expect, Beth Gibbons and friends transform the track into something spare and ominous, stripping back its cheery pop production until they reach the desperation at its core. The occasion for this wild convergence of styles is the soundtrack for the new Tom Hiddleston movie High-Rise. Check it out.

High-Rise opens in the US on 4/28 via On Demand, Amazon Video, and iTunes and 5/13 in theaters.
