Brenda’s Friend – “Pas De Deux”

Brenda’s Friend – “Pas De Deux”

Brenda’s Friend is the collaboration between Bloomington, IN-based musicians Amy Oelsner and Erin Tobey. They’re putting out a new tape, House Down, at the end of the month — we posted the title track a few weeks back — and today they’re sharing another new one, the enveloping and warm “Pas De Deux.” The muted, drifting guitars are reminiscent of another (formerly) Midwestern songwriter, that of Maryn Jones’ Yowler, and it shares that project’s same intimacy. Oelsner and Tobey’s words blend into the music, but they speak in a hushed resilience: “Sing til the ground is hard, til the grass is turning brown, til the sound is heard, til the sound becomes a word and the word is: why.” Listen below.

House Down is out 5/27 via Winspear Records. Pre-order it here.
