SaveMoney Militia rep Joey Purp is announcing his new project, iiiDrops; it’s a Chicago affair featuring Vic Mensa, Saba, and Mick Jenkins, among others, and it’s set to drop next week. Purp has a smooth, dexterous flow that easily weaves in and out of pretty much any aesthetic. Lead single “Cornerstore” was a gripping tale disguised as a trip to a convenience store over a triumphant boom-bap beat from Thelonius Martin.
His latest share is a loose, slinky, fun knocker featuring fellow Militia member Chance The Rapper called “Girls @.” Knox Fortune’s beat blends dance, old school 808s, and bottle clinks as Purp and Chano detail the the types of girls they like. Purp buoyantly flows on the hook, “Where all the girls at?/ With the credit cards and the high heels/ The Mercedes Benz with the big wheels/ When they hear this jam they can’t sit still.” It reminds me of some vintage Neptunes production with lighthearted, flirty raps. Check it out.
