Kaytranada turned in one of the best albums of the year so far with 99.9%. He’s also been busy behind the boards producing for a bunch of big names and pretty much any up-and-comer of note that you can think of. He’s collaborated with Pharrell, Janet Jackson, Katy B, Anderson .Paak, Kali Uchi, T.I., Young Thug, Banks, Beyoncé, and the list goes on. He’s never officially worked with Rihanna, but his remix of ANTI standout track “Kiss It Better” is making me wish RiRi’s latest offering was on his list of production credits.
The Montreal producer reshapes his favorite track from ANTI (as he told Zane Lowe on Beats 1 radio) into a synth-dipped, R&B-tinged, electro dance groove. He hollows out the more filling sounds of the original, turns the churning midtempo pace into a bouncy, more frenzied jaunt, and stutters the original vocals. “Kiss It Better” was already a tough song to resist moving to, but Kaytra will have you moving to it in a completely different and equally infectious way. Listen.
