Last night, NBC aired the first episode of Maya And Marty, the new variety show from Saturday Night Live veterans Maya Rudolph and Martin Short. (Jack White did the theme music.) And as part of the opening-night festivities, SNL ally and mildly transgressive pop star Miley Cyrus appeared to do some light gender-bending. Cyrus started her performance wearing a tuxedo and top hat, singing Leonard Cohen’s 1988 casanova classic “I’m Your Man.” She then ripped off her tearaway pants and launched into Peggy Lee’s eternally saucy “I’m A Woman,” with Rudolph joining her. It’s a delightfully old-school TV performance, and you can watch it below.
It’s never exactly difficult to talk shit about Miley Cyrus, but she can still sing.
