For the past two years, at every opportunity, I’ve been incessantly repeating that Tove Lo’s Queen Of The Clouds was the best pop album of 2014. So I’m ecstatic to report that she’s ready to release her second LP, starting with today’s release of lead single “Cool Girl.” We don’t know much about the new album yet, but judging from this track it seems Tove has transposed her give-no-fucks lyrical presence from the last album’s bold, beautiful technicolor eruptions to the breezy, low-key style that rules the radio these days. It’s a great song, which is a relief, and it’s inspired by Gone Girl, which is hilarious. Listen below.
Lorde loves it, by the way, which makes sense because it totally qualifies as post-Lorde pop:
