Chicago’s Brett Sova records skuzzed-up, fuzzed-out classic rock under the name Axis: Sova. It used to be a one-man operation, but as often happens when solo projects progress, the live band Sova has been touring with joined him in the studio for new album Motor Earth. It’s coming out on Ty Segall’s Drag City imprint God? Records this October, and the first single is the paranoid post-Hawkwind choogler “Violent Yellow.” The groove is heavy, the riffs are menacing, and the Hendrix-indebted wah-wah guitar solo is good enough to almost singlehandedly bring that particular mode of expression back into style. Listen below.
Motor Earth is out 10/14 on God? Records. Pre-order it here.
