Surf-rock eccentrics the Growlers, who host Orange County’s annual Beach Goth festival, are returning next month with a new album called City Club. They performed with Julian Casablancas at last year’s Beach Goth fest, and he must’ve had fun, because the Strokes frontman is producing their new LP and putting it out on his Cult Records label. His influence is clear on first single and title track “City Club,” a slick, subtly funky groove that contrasts nicely with Brooks Nielsen’s gritty vocals. Listen.
City Club is out 9/30 on Cult Records. This year’s Beach Goth festival goes down 10/22-23 with a lineup featuring Bon Iver, James Blake, Patti Smith, and 2 Live Crew.
